Breakfast Smoothie & Egg Burritos   “As seen on Brain Boosting Breakfast”

Brain Boosting BreakfastSmart Smoothie:

  • Half cup pure apple juice (no sugar added)
  • Half cup cranberries (frozen)
  • Half cup blueberries (frozen)
  • Half cup strawberry (frozen)
  • One cup plain low-fat yogurt (frozen in advance if possible)
  • 2 TBS ground flax
  • 2 TBS honey

Place all of the ingredients into a (heavy duty)  blender or bullet  and blend until smooth!  For people, a cup and a straw is all you need. For your dogs, we think that the best way to avoid a hairy milk mustache is to pour some of the mixture into cups, put a bone treat or chew stick in the cup so that it’s both in and out of the liquid, and freeze it for at least a couple of hours.  Once you take it out of the freezer, let it thaw for about 10 minutes and pull it out of the cup using the treat/stick as a handle.

  • 2 Eggs per burrito or pooch bowl
  • Lower fat cheese, shredded
  • 1Turkey breast – cooked and cubed.
  • Whole wheat tortilla shells

Now let’s get crackin’!

Eggs are one of the  biggest brain boosters– the yolks have choline which helps in the creation of memory stem cells in the brain.  Choline also helps with brain function and health.  We are going to scramble some eggs, add a little bit of cheese for some extra calcium and some cooked turkey breast.  Turkey is rich in the amino acid tyrosine that helps produce neuro-transmitters in our brains that allow kids to remain alert and energetic.  If you don’t like eggs, you can simply use the turkey instead.

Scramble the eggs then add a bit of shredded cheese when they are cooked.  For the dogs, put the mixture in their bowls to cool as we don’t want dogs to eat hot food.  It can burn their mouths. Add some turkey breast cubes. The dogs don’t need the tortilla shell, just the eggs and turkey and cheese if that’s something you do give to your dog.

For the two leggers in the crowd – use multi-grain wraps, you want to avoid “white foods’ that have the nutrients removed from them.   Simply take some eggs with the melty cheese on it and put it on the shell, then add some turkey to it.  Now, we Roll n’ Wrap. Or is that Wrap n’ Roll?!

Goes down well with the Smart Smoothie!
